The Cardiff Wine Tasting Circle

Wine education

The Cardiff Wine Tasting Circle was set up by people who had just finished doing their Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET: www.wset.co.uk) Intermediate Course at Cardiff Metropolitan University (http://www.cardiffmet.ac.uk/) in Cardiff. These people wanted to go on learning about wine but not to have to work too hard at it - definitely no more exams!

Since then many other people have joined CWTC who don't have or didn't have any wine based qualifications. Some continue to be very happy to join in once a month for a sociable evening; others have chosen to dip into and out of study. Some do this just as a hobby and some because as life changes they have decided that they would like to move into the wine world full time. So the wine education level of our members varies from the contentedly, sociably interested to the seriously involved; we have one member currently studying to be a Master of Wine (MW: www.masters-of-wine.org), and we have had several MWs among our speakers.

Caroline Ritchie, one of our committee members, is a Reader at Cardiff Met and teaches on the WSET Intermediate and Advanced courses run there. Details of the wine courses run at Cardiff Metropolitan University can be found on the Cardiff Metropolitan University, WSET and Tourism Training (www.tourismtrainingguide.co.uk), websites.

If you want to study wine, that's great: we can help you do that; but if you just want to learn and have fun, we can also help you there.

Although some of our members work in the wine trade we are not and have no intention of being affiliated to any commercial company. Obviously if those in the trade give us the nod about some food and wine matching evenings going on in the restaurants of Cardiff we always try to pass this information on to members (see the non-CWTC events page). Information does not flow the other way.

Wine education equals the best homework in the world!
